Self Regional Nurse, Diabetes Advocate Earns Palmetto Gold Award
GREENWOOD—Rebecca Wise, RN, CDE, program coordinator for diabetes education at Self Regional Healthcare, has been selected a Palmetto Gold Award recipient for 2009.
An activist for those with diabetes, she has headed the hospital’s diabetes education programs since its inception two decades ago The Upstate’s first Diabetes Day Camp and summer retreat for teens was developed by Wise, who also co-developed “I Can Control Diabetes,” an adaptation of a booklet developed by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Palmetto Gold began in 2002 when a group of nurse leaders from major nursing organizations came together to plan a strategy for displaying contributions made by nurses to the health care system. The idea produced a gala for the annual recognition of 100 nurses who exemplify excellence in their practice and commitment to the profession.
